The Effect of PRP Injections on Skin Rejuvenation
What are PRP Injections?
PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma Injections often referred to as “vampire lifting” is a procedure that uses your own blood to give you a more youthful appearance. The premise of this act may sound intimidating, but the actual procedure is far from it and relatively painless. There are 3 steps to PRP injections; blood is drawn from your arm just like for any other lab work, that blood is run through a machine to separate the platelets into blood to produce a higher concentration, then the blood with the high concentration of platelets is reinjected into the desired area of your body. This procedure can be used for several reasons including anti aging therapy, hair restoration, and to speed up recovery from injuries. Studies have shown that when used as an anti-aging therapy, skin smoothness improves, and pores appear smaller after 2 weeks of treatment. For anti-aging purposes, the injections are typically used in areas where signs of aging show up the most such as on the forehead, cheeks, neck, and back of the hands.
What Is PRF? Is it the Same as PRP?
PRF, short for Platelet Rich Fibrin injections, is the second generation of PRP injections. PRF can successfully improve the sagging skin of mature clients by building the missing tissue. PRF has a high concentration of fibrin, white blood cells, and stem cells which help achieve healing, collagen production, and improved elasticity of the skin. Long-term effects of the procedure include tightening of the skin, increased collagen production, and overall enhanced skin quality. The results can last anywhere from six to twelve months.
Are PRP or PRF Injections Safe?
PRP & PRF injections are safe anti-aging treatments. A variety of growth factors from the client’s own tissue are implanted into the trouble areas of their skin, which allows the client’s skin to improve in a natural manner. Plasma injections can be either used alone or they can be an additional treatment in conjunction with other therapies. PRF injections are often used in combination with hyaluronic dermal fillers to increase face volume to enhance a youthful look or Restylane to reduce the appearance of under-eye hollows.
Do Plasma Injections Actually Work?
Overall plasma injections reduce wrinkles, plump sagging skin, alleviate deep creases, diminish acne scars, and improve your complexion. Results can last as long as eighteen months after treatments. Most patients see significant results after three treatments; this procedure can be done in combination with fillers to see more immediate results. According to a 2014 scientific study of patients who participated in three sessions of plasma injections, their skin improved with the treatment without any dangerous side effects. When accessing the patients’ satisfaction level with the results of the therapy, the satisfaction score was high. In a more recent 2020 study, it is further confirmed that PRP injections are effective in improving skin conditions and protecting skin from photoaging, which has broad applications in anti-aging skin repair.
What Are the Side Effects?
Of course, like any procedure, there is the potential to experience complications or side effects. General side-effects may include redness, swelling, and bruises around the injection site are common. These side-effects usually subside within the next 72 hours after the procedure. Make sure to follow up with your provider if these side effects persist.
