Permanent Makeup - Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Permanent Make Up?

Permanent makeup is a cosmetic technique known also as a micropigmentation, a revolutionary technique which employs pigments in to the dermis designing resemble makeup, such as eye lining and other permanent enhancing colours to the skin of the face, lips, and eyelids. It is also used to produce artificial eyebrows, particularly in people who have lost them as a consequence of old age, disease, such as alopecia, chemotherapy, or a genetic disturbance, and to disguise scars and white spots in the skin such as in vitiligo or for those who are simply unhappy with their brows shape. It is also used to restore or enhance the breast’s areola, such as after breast surgery.

What is the difference between permanent makeup and semi-permanent makeup?

There is no difference between them. It is described as Semi Permanent as natural pigments are used which may fade with time, but the pigment will remain permanently within the skin.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a manual method used to deposit small amounts of ink in the superficial layer of the skin. It is considered to be a semi-permanent tattoo and it lasts for 12-18 months, depending on different factors. You may enjoy your perfect, naturally looking brows for much longer if appropriate maintenance is scheduled, every 6-12 months to saturate the pigment and also little corrections to the shape may be made.

How is the procedure carried out?

A minimum of 24 hours prior to the treatment start, a pigment patch test is required. It is performed by placing a tiny amount of pigment into the skin usually in the hairline behind the ear. This needs to be performed to make sure there is no allergy to the pigment. On the day of the permanent makeup treatment the very deep consultation is carry out about your health, discussion in detail about your expectations and will make sure that new look created is exactly what you desire. Any suggestions regarding enhancement your beauty will be offered on the faith on your skin tone and face shape. Crucial to the procedure is the follow up or retouch appointment carried out 4-6 weeks later to saturate more pigments.

What should I do to prepare for my procedure?

There is no special preparation required. Although leaving your eyebrows alone for a week (no tweezing, waxing or otherwise removing the hair) would be recommended.

Does the process of Permanent Makeup hurt?

The most important for me is that you are comfortable during the procedure although there is some discomfort associated with it. A topical aesthetic before and throughout is applied on the treated area. Most of my clients describe the feeling as slight scratchy sensation or they say it is similar to getting threaded that disappears after anaesthesia.

How I will look straight after the treatment and how long it does take to heal?

Straight after the treatment the treated area can become red and swollen which will dissipate within two hours after. Regarding eyes and lip procedures you may experience swelling on eye liner and on the lip as the skin is very thin and sensitive in this area. This will only last a day or two, then the crust that forms will start to flake away revealing a lighter and more natural colour. Your eyebrows will appear darker initially which will fade with the next 5-10 days, after those days they may appear lighter for up to 70%.
Healing time varies from person to person and mainly depends on your skin sensitivity. Usually it takes about a week to 10 days for the skin to form and peel off. Then the pigment needs some time to settle into the skin. At least 4 weeks needs to pass before we consider our retouch appointment.

Why I should choose you to do my Permanent Makeup?

As I can guarantee that your face is important to me and that I will act in accordance with my experience and expertise to give you my absolute best. Whilst practising Semi Permanent Make Up, I have continued to train, to update my skills and techniques, as I believe this is the industry that is constantly evolving and rapidly is getting on popularity.
My aim is to listen to the client’s desires and expectations and get the most natural look, so no one can know you are wearing the Permanent Make Up. I never rush and my priority is to achieve the best possible results and to do this I always allow plenty of time to complete the treatment.

May the eyelash extensions affect the eyeliner tattoo?

You can wear the eyelash extensions and eyeliner tattoo at the same time, but unfortunately eyelash extensions needs to be removed at least 3 days prior to the eyes micropigmentation. It is also crucial to wait at least 3-4 weeks for complete healing to occur, before new eyelash extensions will be applied. Imagine how fantastic that will be – never having to worry about mascara or eyeliner again! Since now on, you’ll wake up elegant and beautiful every day, I think that it’s worth the wait!

What is Permanent Make Up used for?

The Permanent Make Up or Micropigmentation is used for various effects like Eyebrows Shape Enhancement for over plucked brows, Lip Enhancement or Eyes Enhancement and Eyeliner for those who suffer from allergies to traditional make up cosmetics or with sight difficulties. The Permanent Make Up rapidly increases confidence, well being and safe the time on every day applying make up. It is perfect for busy professionals.

How long will my Permanent Make Up last for?

Because everyone is different, pigment fades due to the natural exfoliation of the skin. It can last anywhere from 1-5 years depending on the individual skin regeneration. Retouch appointment after a year is recommended to refresh the design, keep the colour fresh and the strokes crisp. Overall the Permanent Makeup will last as long it is maintained.

Why second appointment is important?

During the first appointment, a shape is established, colour saturation occurs, or the first set of hair-stokes. The second appointment is to intensify the pigment. This is usually around 1.5 hour’s appointment to add more pigment to the brow area. This is because the area is healing, some parts may not hold as well as others and you may have a few patches that need more colour or where hair-strokes faded, as they can do. This is completely normal and everyone heals differently. I give my best at our first appointment but if there is any little thing I can do to perfect it come back for your touch-up. Sometimes the healed area is to ash, shape needs adjusting, one side is a couple of hairs closer towards nose, one tail is longer or they just may be to light, it is crucial to have the retouch appointment done. It is important that any retouch procedure will be performed no sooner than four weeks after the initial treatment. The minimum norm for follow-up appointment for lip procedure is six weeks due to the lips delicate nature. The distance time frames will vary depending on the health profile and age of the client, but these are good standards for consideration.

Sometimes, for eyeliner, minor swelling can occur, and a second appointment is needed to make minor shape adjustments to complete the final look. Often however, it is not. You don’t have to come to you second appointment if you feel it’s unnecessary. However, I highly recommend it, particularly in the case of hair stroke brows. They will last longer if you come in a second time – and there is no additional charge for this. I want you to be walking around with the best set of brows that I can give you – and ones that last a reasonably good length of time!

How is colour chosen for my eyebrows, lips or eyeliner?

I bespoke mix your colour considering your skin tone and hair colour to get the perfect match for you. This is also discussed and confirmed before we go ahead with the permanent makeup process. I am working on the high quality Li pigments manufactured in Las Vegas, USA. All the colours are iron-oxide based and have been FDA approved. A wide range of colours is available.

How do I take care of my permanent makeup?

Making sure that treated skin is dry and clean, which means no swimming, sweating or otherwise getting the area wet, no tanning or prolonged sun exposure, no scratching, or peeling tattoo at least for 10 days after the treatment. You will need to apply the cream every 3-4hours (cream will be provided for you as well as detailed guidelines regarding after care). Ones they are healed up you can treat them normally.

How long does the procedure take?

It takes roughly 2.5 hours, sometimes it may be more sometimes less, as everyone is different and the treatment is performed very individually. Please allow at least 3 hours for your appointment. It does not take that long, but the Permanent Makeup isn`t something we want to rush.

What if I don’t like it?

There are several things we can do. Your eyebrows can be modified to a point. A good technician will work with you until you are satisfied with your results.

Is it a safe procedure?

Yes, it is very safe procedure as the cosmetic tattoo machine is one of the most hygienic available, a small, pen-like device that uses completely disposable parts. All needles, tubes, chambers, caps, casings – anything that comes into contact with clients, are brand new and sealed prior to your treatment. Allergic reactions to the pigments are incredibly rare. The pigments brands used are trusted, long-established USA made brands that have been on the market for decades. The pigments contain iron oxide that is already present in the human body, so highly unlikely to cause a reaction. With regards to patch tests, this can be arranged, and is recommended if you are concerned/are a highly allergic individual. However, – as an allergic reaction can sometimes show after 2 weeks, but sometimes 5-10 years later (this can be due to hormones/medications or simply unknown) a patch test can be rather ineffective. Most clients do not request a patch test.

Can I have my eyebrow tattoo done the same day as my regular eyelash extensions?

Yes, you can have eyelash extensions and eyebrow tattoo done on the same day, just please give me a notice so I can make your appointment one after the other. It is also important that your eyebrow tattoo is done after the eyelash extensions, to avoid any unnecessary contact and irritation of the tattooed area.
